About Us
Tek Tile is led by Jon Atnip and built for Orlando homeowners who want a clean process and a result that holds up.
We obsess over layout, do prep and waterproofing the right way, and communicate throughout—so your project stays calm, organized, and done right the first time.
Our Story
Jon started in tile as a young commercial helper, learning the fundamentals hands-on—layout, cuts, mortar, grout, and the small details that make the finished work feel “right.” Over time, he moved into full installs and eventually brought that same standards-first approach to homeowners.
Today, Tek Tile is still owner-led. That means the person you hire is the person driving the plan, the prep, and the precision on site. We take the time to get the first row perfect, align patterns and corners, and build showers the way they should be built—so your space looks incredible and lasts.
FAQS
Start by confirming they’re licensed and insured, then ask to see recent photos of work similar to yours (showers, backsplashes, mosaics, etc.). A great installer will talk about prep and waterproofing before they talk about tile, and they’ll be clear about timeline, materials, and expectations in writing. Finally, look for a process that includes layout planning—that’s where “okay” work becomes great work.
What questions should I ask a tile installer before hiring?
Ask:
- What waterproofing system do you use for showers, and why?
- What prep do you do before tile goes up (walls, substrate, leveling, patching)?
- How do you plan the layout so cuts and patterns look balanced?
- What’s included in the estimate (demo, materials, waterproofing, grout, caulk)?
- What’s the timeline and what can change it?
Clear answers here usually mean a smoother project.
A full-service tile contractor helps manage the full scope: demo (if needed), prep, waterproofing, layout, install, grout/caulk, and finish details—plus clear communication from start to finish. That process matters most in wet areas like showers and tub surrounds, where the work behind the tile is what prevents problems later.
Yes. Waterproofing is not optional in a shower—it’s the foundation of a long-lasting installation. We follow best practices for wet areas and build the system correctly before tile goes up, including careful treatment around niches, benches, curbs, and plumbing penetrations.
The biggest cost drivers are prep needs, tile material (porcelain vs. natural stone), pattern complexity (herringbone, mosaics), cuts and edging, and wet-area requirements like waterproofing. The condition of the existing surface matters too—if walls are out of plane or framing needs attention, the job requires more labor to show up “perfect” in the finished result.
Yes. A helpful estimate usually starts with a few photos and basic details (dimensions, tile choice, and what you want installed). If you’re not sure what you need yet, we can give scheduling guidance and help you understand what info will tighten the quote.
Yes. Backsplashes are one of the fastest ways to refresh a kitchen, and the details matter—straight lines, clean cuts, balanced layout, and properly finished edges. We’ll also coordinate around outlets and switches so everything lands neatly and looks finished.
Absolutely. We install backsplashes to complement existing finishes all the time. We’ll confirm the wall condition, plan the layout, and make sure the final height and edges look intentional—especially around windows, corners, and cabinetry.
Yes. For showers, we focus heavily on the parts you don’t see: proper substrate, waterproofing, and clean detailing at corners, transitions, and penetrations. The goal is a shower that looks great on day one—and performs for years.
It depends on scope, but most shower projects are driven by prep, waterproofing, and cure times, not just tile setting. Once we see the space and confirm materials, we’ll give a realistic timeline and explain what could change it (demo surprises, wall condition, tile lead time, or design changes).
Yes. Tub surrounds need the same attention to prep and water management as showers—especially around the plumbing wall, corners, and any recessed shelves. We install clean, durable surrounds that look intentional and are properly sealed at transitions.
Yes. Fireplaces are a focal point, so layout and symmetry matter. We’ll plan the pattern, align feature lines, and finish edges cleanly for a polished look that complements the room.
